"Mexico"
The Making of Mexico by The Nolas
A transformative trip immersed in the vibrant energy of Mexico sparked The Nolas’ creative inspiration for the song “Mexico”. While strumming his classical nylon string guitar, Manny came up with a captivating chord progression. The lyrics that ensued effortlessly flowed into the music, drawing from the impressions left by that voyage.
With the foundation of the song taking shape, Manny presented his creation to Joey, who immediately embraced it. When the band got together for a rehearsal, it took no time for the music to progress into a finished song. The organic chemistry among the band members breathed life into "Mexico," effortlessly fusing elements of their collective influences.
Raised in Italian households, The Nolas were exposed to a rich tapestry of musical genres, including Italian music, classic rock, and the enchanting sounds of the Gipsy Kings and Santana. These captivating melodies left an indelible mark on their creative spirit, manifesting in the soul-stirring aura of "Mexico."
Movies also played a significant role in shaping The Nolas' artistic direction. The iconic film "La Bamba" introduced them to the timeless music of Richie Valens and Los Lobos, igniting a profound curiosity for Latin and flamenco styles. This newfound passion propelled them on a musical quest, delving into the sounds of Latin America and Spain.
The intricate guitar work of Paco de Lucia and the use of minor, Phrygian, and Harmonic scales became a wellspring of inspiration for The Nolas, evoking a mystical quality in their compositions. The Nolas believe as much as a song can rock, it can also be very powerful in a spiritual way. It's got to have soul!
“Mexico” will be released June 30th. The track was recorded at Cherry Studios, mixed by Dave Traina at Freq Shop Studios, and mastered by John Davis from Metropolis Studios. The fusion of various influences and connection to "Mexico", encourages listeners to create vivid imagery within their minds.
